While working with Divers Direct, I helped cultivate an
online community by teaming up with a great photography company in the area and
sponsoring The Blue Wild
photo contest. Thrill seekers and
adventurists alike; diving enthusiasts are stimulated mainly by stories and
pictures, so naturally I was inclined to help create an “Events”
community that allowed them the opportunity to meet at exotic locations,
dive with sharks, etc and share their passion together. This provided very
positive results for us. Along with the
Events page and Facebook, I
have also helped structure the Diver’s Direct Scuba Blog by facilitating
the diving community with a place to gather and retaining new subscribers on daily basis.
As a sponsor
of the Entrepreneurial
Organization of South Florida, I submitted a proposal and was awarded the
opportunity to give social media support at the 2013
BCS National Championship game in Miami. My submittal included social
media ambassadors, who encouraged engagement throughout the night, as well
as an on-site Twitter
real-time feed and text campaign. This opportunity gave Socially Engaged
great high-profile exposure with ESPN,
and provided me with a wealth of knowledge from working with a national media
giant.
It has been my
privilege to work with Barrington
Irving, the first African American to fly around the world solo. He was
named National
Geographic’s emerging explorer in 2012, while I represented him. His online
community is a blend of those very passionate about his mentoring of young
minds, and the adrenaline junkies who imagine what it’s like flying around the
world exploring new lands. Both types reacted well to information
I provided about success stories from children in his classes, blended with
exciting photos from all of the places he’s been. Along with his Facebook page, we also
created a custom website for his
non-profit company.
